Overwhelmed. It’s a word that captures a present day conundrum of constantly moving but never making it anywhere. From work to play to the personal connections in between, we’re always busy.
Crunched for time.
It’s a formula for burning out. The solution will be different for each person, and it won’t be a destination that can be reached overnight. However, you can easily change direction by being mindful of the difference between being alive and living. Are your thoughts, feelings, and actions ones that cultivate the lifestyle you want to lead?
“‘Blorft’ is an adjective I just made up that means ‘Completely overwhelmed but proceeding as if everything is fine.'” – Tina Fey, Bossypants
Don’t lead a blorft lifestyle. When you find yourself living but leading a life drowning in constant busyness without ever being able to live in the moment, it’s time to take a step back and reflect. Get off the hamster wheel of running towards the “next” without stopping to fully reflect in the present moment. Because those “in the futures” will soon be “of the pasts,” in life’s ultimate, finite time.
We have a defined period of time on this earth. It’s up to you what gives it meaning and how to spend it.
